Tom McPhail, arguably the most high-profile pensions pundit of the last 20 years and one of the sector’s most influential lobbyists, is leaving Hargreaves Lansdown to work for a cycling and e-bike company.
McPhail, who held the role of head of retirement policy at Hargreaves Lansdown, joined the firm in 2002 from Torquil Clark.
A regular and influential fixture on industry working parties, government committees and associations, McPhail was chairman of the Pensions Income Choice Association for almost 10 years and governor of the Pensions Policy Institute.
McPhail wrote on Twitter: “Off to work for @pureelectricnow cycling, electric bicycles and -e-scooters. Bit of a change. Secretly I think maybe I care a bit more about bikes than I do about pensions. Took me until 53 to realise”
