Employee benefits consultancy Benefit has recently been certified as a ‘B Corporation’ business, reflecting its high social and environmental standards and a commitment to balance purpose with profit.
There are now 7,800 B Corporations, operating across more than 150 different industry and 90-plus countries. Businesses looking for this certification need to apply to the nonprofit B Lab.
The certification process involves a thorough review of the company’s operations and business model to assess the impact these have on the business’s workers, environment, customers, community, and governance.
To maintain certification, B Corps are re-assessed by B Lab’s standards every three years — standards that themselves are evolving and improving. This certification system has been running since 2006.
Benefiz founder and CEO Tim Gillingham says the process has taken over a year. He adds: “Being one of the first EBC’s to obtain B Corp status is a game changer for us. We are now part of a global community of businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental impact. This not only supports relationships with existing clients but gives us a clear advantage in securing new clients where sustainability is a key aspect in the procurement exercise.
“As a business we have always tried to be different and forward thinking. Operating a full remote model and giving our employees ownership of Benefiz are just two examples that support our sustainable credentials. In addition we have worked with a third party to plant over 2,000 trees across Kenya, Mozambique and Madagascar over the last year and offer a range of sustainable products to our clients. We hope to keep growing our impact in the future.”
To qualify for this certification business just score at least 80+ on the B Impact Assessment.
