The DC Investment Forum (DCIF) has elected Mark Austin as the new chair and David Whitehair its vice chair for 2024.
Mark Austin is pensions and insurance Eexecutive for Northern Trust’s Asset Servicing business in EMEA, where he leads the growth strategy for the firm’s pensions and insurance business. He is also chair of trustees of the Northern Trust UK Pension Plan. He has over 35 years’ experience in managing and administering retirement assets.
David Whitehair is director of institutional business, UK DC at Janus Henderson Investors, a position he has held since 2020. He is responsible for the strategic development of the firm’s UK DC business. Prior to this, he spent a decade at Fidelity, working in DC business development.
The current chair Baillie Gifford’s Lorna Kennedy will sit on the board for one more year.
Austin says: “The year ahead promises to be pivotal for UK DC. With so much change afoot, we look forward to playing a role in scrutinising and debating the direction of travel, with a particular focus on how DC investment is evolving. After all, along with contribution rates, nothing makes a bigger difference to DC members’ outcomes.”
Whitehair adds: “We look forward to commissioning and sharing high quality research to educate scheme fiduciaries and prompt debate where it’s needed. At the moment, we’re working on research which we hope will shed light on what pension schemes really want from their private market allocations, and what – if anything – is holding them back from making an investment. There’s much more to come in 2024.”
