Aviva has appointed Doug Brown to be the new chief executive of its UK and Ireland Life Insurance division.
Brown is currently chief executive of Canada Life in the UK and will join Aviva’s group executive committee, reporting to Aviva Group CEO, Amanda Blanc.
He will start in this new role in April 2021, subject to the normal regulatory approvals.
Brown has worked in the life insurance sector for over three decades, and has been CEO of Canada Life for the past six years. Prior to this he was their UK chief operating officer and has previously also held senior roles at AIG Life and Aviva Europe.
This role is currently held by Angela Darlington who is leaving corporate life.
Blanc says that this appointment will help the business grow to become the UK’s leading insurer. She points out that Aviva already has leading position in key growth areas, including bulk purchase annuities, workplace savings and protection.
