Bupa has launched a new workplace mental health proposition which is focused on early intervention and helping employees maintain good mental health.

The new product — called Workplace Mental Health Advantage —  will use data analytics to help businesses understand the impact of mental health on their workforce and plan effective interventions.

One of the key features of the plan will be access to a mental health therapists within 10 days should problems arise. There will also be a focus on engagement services to help companies build more resilient workforces.

Bupa is partnering with third party JAAQ, a mental health social media platform, to offer clients a customised set of wellbeing services and tools, specifically designed for the workplace.

Speaking to Health & Protection, Bupa said that it will be discussing this new proposition with current clients to asset their needs as the product is rolled out. It did not confirm whether this would be offered as a standard features on existing PMI policies, or rolled out as a stand-alone product.

Bupa is also launching a series of pilots to continue the evolution of the proposition. These include an integrated mental health service which incorporates an EAP and PMI to deliver a ‘more connected experience’ for users, and a new coaching services for employees.

Bupa says this will be a useful took for employers, with its Bupa Wellbeing Index showing people are less like to move jobs if they have access to good workplace mental health support.

Richard Norris, general manager of business and specialist products at Bupa UK says: “Many employers increased their focus on mental health in response to the pandemic and are now looking to better support their people and manage costs with a focus on improving resilience by better adoption of preventive services.

“Across Bupa there is a huge amount we can do to help employers and our new Workplace Mental Health advantage brings all together into one package of services that will help reduce the burden and make it easier to improve the culture of wellbeing in their organisation.”
