Barnett Waddingham has appointed Julien Masselot as its new head of capital and risk.
Masselot will assist several general insurance businesses in a number of areas, such as capital modelling, internal model validation, risk management, model use, solvency II, and process transformation initiatives.
Masselot has more than 15 years of experience in the insurance industry. He began his career as a consultant before leading the capital management team for more than ten years for Markel International.
BW partner and head of general insurance Cherry Chan says: “I am very excited to have Julien joining BW General Insurance team as our Head of Capital & Risk after working in the industry as a senior GI practitioner for more than 15 years. Julien will continue to build on our existing capital modelling and risk expertise and expand our rapidly growing client base in the general insurance industry.”
Masselot says: “I am thrilled to join BW and I look forward to working with the very talented General Insurance team. Together we ensure our clients’ individual needs are met in an ever-evolving market.
“As most capital models are now established, significant improvements are being made to leverage the latest technology and responsiveness from these models. These investments resulted in an increased buy-in from senior management and integration in business decisions such as setting risk appetites, portfolio management, which in turn must be balanced with the regulatory demands to provide assurance around the credibility of the results.”
