Phoenix Group has made a number of senior appointments to its bulk purchase annuities team.

It has appointed Mark Fenlon to be the head of its annuity client services team while Matt Richards and Rhian Littlewood join as senior business development managers. Jack Hill is appointed as senior pricing manager, and Charlotte Fletcher joins as a business development actuary.

Fenlon joins from Aviva where he was responsible for growing and leading both BPA operations and reinsurance operations. He will be responsible for all post-sale elements of any annuity transactions.

Richards joins following 10 years at Pension Insurance Corporation where he was responsible for managing, structuring  and executing buy-ins, buyouts and captive reinsurance transactions in the origination team. Littlewood joins from Aon where she worked within the risk settlement team advising on and executing bulk annuity contracts for pension schemes. Both Richards and Littlewood will lead the new business transactions team.

Hill joins from Mercer where was a principal in the risk transfer team and specialised in bulk annuity transactions, longevity swaps, liability management exercises and advising pension schemes on long-term strategy. He will focus on the commercial aspects of the BPA business, including the expansion of the BPA product proposition.

Fletcher joins from Willis Towers Watson where she was a senior associate working as an actuary within the retirement line of the business. She has experience across a range of DB pension schemes advising both trustee and corporate clients.

Phoenix head of bulk purchase annuities Justin Grainger says: “As we continue to grow our BPA business, we are attracting the best talent in the market and our new cohort of hires is testament to that. Our growing team signals our commitment to our customers and to becoming a market leader in the BPA business.”
