PTL appointing liability-driven investment (LDI) specialist Payam Kazemian as a client director, who joins the firm from Citi.
Kazemian has more than 12 years of frontline pension investment experience, particularly in the design and implementation of LDI solutions.
At Citi he was a director focusing on pensions structuring and solutions. He has also held senior roles at Barclays, Deutsche Bank, and Goldman Sachs.
Originally from Toronto, Canada, Payam received his doctorate from the University of Cambridge in Materials Science. On graduation, he moved from the world of nanotechnology and electron microscopy to finance, where he focused on generating ideas to help corporate UK pension clients with the challenges facing their schemes.
PTL managing director Richard Butcher says: “Payam’s skillset is somewhat unique. He has been at the cutting edge of investment thinking for many years and understands how these complex instruments are built and applied. He can translate these solutions into relatable terms for trustees and sponsors, a talent that is increasingly in demand on trustee boards, particularly for larger, complex schemes exploring more sophisticated investment and liability management solutions.”
Kazemian says: “I’ve always been passionate about using my expertise to help trustees and sponsors make real progress towards their goals and, most importantly, securing member benefits. The demand for professional trustees with strong investment skills has never been higher so a move into professional trusteeship was a logical next step. I am excited to be joining such a dynamic and pragmatic firm that continues to invest in, and enhance, its teams to meet the evolving market. Coupled with the culture of innovation, it made PTL the obvious choice.”
